Aspen - My Honey Moon

Michigan Upper Peninsula

My thirst for wild exotic places got a nice quench!!! Upper peninsula of Michigan has nothing but full of state parks and exotic shore lines. This our second honey moon so we took it light. This time all we did was hiking and sight seeing i swear !!!!!!....Our itinerary (Tahquemenon national forest, Pictured Rocks national Shore line and Mackinaw Island)....

Dont even think about going to Michigan without a DSLR that is a terrible mistake..at the very least take a semi pro DSLR...i took the Nikon D7100 with 18-105mm lens...Travelling by car is the best option to completely enjoy the scenic views and have some romantic dinner...we packed completely as we know that upper peninsula has hardly any veggie places....it actually worked pretty good for us...there were lot of completely empty beaches along the way and they had places to have a nice picnic

We travelled all the way from Chicago to St.Ignace nice little town and its light on the budget front at the same time have a lot of lake facing hotels...the main reason why we choose this is because its closer to most of the places in upper peninsula...even pictured rocks can be reached with in 2 hrs .....

First stop Tahquemenon State falls park....my wife kept insisting on this but I wasnt much impressed with this from their website which is kind of misleading with the boring images they have there...turns out this is actually a wonderful place to hike...they have 2 falls here lower and upper and 4 mile hike through the woods to reach them by legs......

same day we made it to Pictured Rocks national lake shore...there is 3 hour long cruise which shows the awesome rocks along the shore line...definitely call ahead and book its worth the 32$...also there is lake shore drive near by and you can stop by to click a lot of light houses.... if you are veggie then definitely pack u will not find good food here... tanic acid secreted by the tree waste gives a unique color to these shore lines.....took me almost midnight to reach St.Ignace from pictured rocks as it turned out it was indeed a full moon day and I had my DSLR no need to explain what happened for the next 1/2 hour.... some times we go to places where we dont have to do anything to feel happy..Upper peninsula is one of those place where just looking outside makes you happy.....

Next stop is mackinaw island.....from St.Ignace you have to take a ferry to reach here....take the ferry which goes through the mackinaw bridge...not all the ones does...we stayed in St.Ignace since its affordable than mackinaw city.......

Mackinaw island every thing over here is over priced....it ok to spend a day here that too if you like hiking and biking....some of the Inns available here are quite nice but book ahead to avoid ridiculous pricing.... Do the horse riding an also the tandem biking if you are goin as a couple....if not dont even plan to go there...this island is for couples and couples only you will be lost if you go here single...probably bored if you go single....
